We have now updated the FGS site to include information about all of the events scheduled for the 2012/2013 season.

The dates for some events are marked as provisional at present. We will try to confirm these dates as soon as we can.

The handicap list has now been updated following yesterday´s competition.

Well done to Hans O for reducing his handicap by 1.7 with 41 points to 12.3 and Larry who reduced by 1.6 with 40 points to 22.6. Sharon lost .4 off her handicap with 37 points.

We had 29 people taking part in Friday golf this week. 28 members and Larry´s guest Roger.

When we first started it was a little cloudy but the weather improved throughout the day. However it was a bit breezy.

We played an X x Y + Z competition.

The winners with a fantastic score of 138 points was the Swedish team of Marianne, Sune, Hans F and Jan L. Last place and chocolates went to Alan Sl, Brian D, Nina and Joan with a score of 98 points. It was the second week in a row where Mr President has collected the chocolates (yippeeeeee).

Nearest the pin was won by John Wo with a distance of 3.33m and yes I did get the birdie.

We had some good scores today with Hans O scoring 41 points, Larry 40 points and Sharon 37 points. Some handicap cuts will be taking place.

The FGS Calendar page has been updated to include details of most of the major events for the 2012/2013 season.

We wil be publishing details pages for most of these events in the next week or so.

As always, some events are provisional and we will also look to add extra events into the calendar closer to the time.

The FGS summer Tuesday golf competitions at Almerimar start for 2012 on Tuesday 22 May. You can see further details here on the website and the starting time each week will be published here on the website.

Only two people beat their handicaps this week and quite a few got 0.1 or 0.2 back on their handicaps. We have now updated the list on the site.

Congratulations to Angela C who scored a fantastic 42 points today. Her handicap has been cut by 3.8 shots and her sloped handicap at Almerimar by 4 shots. Mel was back on form scoring 38 points. His handicap has been reduced by 0.6 and he has lost 1 shot off his sloped handicap for Almerimar.

We had 27 players taking part today in perfect sunshine. It was a fantastic day here so it looks like summer has arrived. We played a Reverse Waltz with 2 hidden holes.

The winners were Peter W, Larry, Angela C and Doris2 (our imaginary player who was making up the numbers) with a great score of 92 points. Last place and chocolates went to Alan Sl, Hans F, Hans O and David Sc with a score of 71.

Nearest the pin was won by Drew with a distance of 3.23m.

John Fl did an excellent job of the prize giving again today and there was a great cheer as Mr President came up to collect his chocolates.

Apologies from me for bashing the prize table and causing two bottles of wine to crash to the clubhouse terrace floor and break. Whoops.

Advanced notice - the society are planning two early evenings in the autumn where members can try out short mat bowls in El Ejido.

The events will take place on two consecutive Wednesdays in the autumn of 2012. They will start at 5pm (arrive in El Ejido at around 4:40pm) and finish at 7pm.

The number of people that can take part in each event is limited to 16. So if you want to try out short mat bowls this autumn you may have to put your name on the list early.

We hope to publish the dates and further details of the events before the end of May 2012.

We can now confirm that the FGS summer Tuesday golf will restart on Tuesday 22 May 2012.

We have now got around to updated the handicap list following last Friday´s competition. It has been a bit hectic so it has taken a couple of days before we have found time to make the changes.

Only one person played better than their handicap in the strong wind on 4 May 2012. Congratulations to our new committee member John Fl who knocked 0.2 off his handicap but managed to maintain his sloped handicap of 11 at Almerimar.

Wow it was windy this week. Nevertheless there were a few good scores.

We played Best 2 (2 hidden holes) this week. The winning team was Peter E, Chris P, Sylvia and Rudolph with a team score of 87 points. Last place and chocolates went to Lawrence, Joan, Rosemary and Jan L with a team score of 69.

Nearest the pin was won by Hans O this week with a distance of 1.76m.

2012/2013 membership fees become due on 1 July 2012. They can be paid in the Poniente Golf Discount shop from that date onward. Fees must be paid by no later than 31 October 2012.

If you are not able to be in Almerimar and pay by this date please contact the committee to make special arrangements for payment.

All members who pay their fees before 31 October 2012 will each receive a sleeve of 3 FGS logo golf balls.

Please do not pay you membership fee before 1 July 2012 as your membership card and golf balls may not be available for collection until this date.

They answered 9 out of 12 questions correctly and had the highest score in the quiz that was contained in the March 2012 newsletter.

We will publish all of the questions and answers when we get a bit of spare time.

We can now confirm that we will be playing a match against Tarleton Golf on Tuesday 12 June 2012 at Almerimar. Replacing the regular summer Tuesday competition on that day.

The handicap list has now been updated following today´s comp. Well done to Paddy Mc for a great individual score today and in the winning team.

A few players, including Idris , gained a shot back on the slope today.  I must say, the greens have improved over the past few weeks. No chocs came our way today, although it was a close call with my team just escaping them with a handy 5 points on the 2 hidden holes .

The sun shone again today and the wind was not as strong as we thought it might be. Just about perfect golfing weather.

We had 24 players taking part in a Yellow Ball competition with 2 hidden holes.

The winners were Paddy Mc, Jim Sh, Angela A and Terry G with a team score of 125 points.

Last place and chocolates went to Richard T, Doug, Maribel and Joan with a score of 100. Just 1 point behind the penultimate team. Both of the last two teams scored 5 extra points from the hidden holes so it was a really close result at the bottom of the results table.

Nearest the pin on hole 17 was won by Eddie Farrell with a distance of 2.02m.

Well done to Paddy Mc as the only person to beat his handicap this week. He had an excellent score of 42 points.

One thing to note for next week is we already know the first tee time. It is 10:48. Thanks the the management of the hotel and the golf course for making arrangements that improve the allocation of tee times to the society.

There is now less than 1 week to the closing date for submission of answers to the golf rules quiz that was contained in the March 2012 newsletter.

If you wish to be crowned the winner of the competition please submit your answers via email  before 30 April 2012.

We have taken Almerimar Today offline for technical reasons.

We have now processed the cards from yesterday and updated the handicap list accordingly.

This week three people scored more than 36 points.

Sylvia scored a fantastic 43 points. She lost 4 shots off her FGS sloped handicap at Almerimar.

Both Sune and Vicky T scored great scores of 39 points. Vicky lost 2 shots off her sloped handicap and Sune´s actual FGS handicap is down to a very impressive 4.2.

It was such a glorious day today I almost took my jumper off going round the course. A light breeze and bright sunshine made me feel that the summer is not far away.

We had 24 players this week taking part in an X x Y + Z competition.

The winning team was Sune, Jan L, Vicky T and Peter & Joan´s guest Janet (not Janet R) with a fantastic score of 148 points.

Last place and chocolates went to the team of Doug, Paul W, Rosemary and Marilena with a score on 125 (just losing out on higher handicap from the penultimate team who had the same score).

Nearest the pin was won by Sylvia with a distance of 2.27m.

Jacqui is back from her golf clothes buying day trip and has started to process the cards for handicap changes. We think there will be a few handicap cuts. However one thing we can say for certain is that Mel´s purple patch has come to an end.
