The handicap list has been updated following the competition on 14 June.
Half of the field played in their buffer zone or better. There were handicap cuts this week for 2 of the committee members, namely Sharon who scored 40 points and Alan 38 points.
Well done both of you and a 2 shot cut for Sharon and 1 shot cut for Alan
.

We only had 16 people taking part this week for a variety of reasons. However the 16 who did play enjoyed glorious sunshine. So much so that Sharon has burned her arms as she forgot to put any sun tan lotion on.
This week it was a Yellow Ball competition with 2 hidden holes. The winners with 123 points were Hans O, Heinz, Elaine (2nd week in a row) and Sharon (chocolates last week).
Last place and chocolates went to Roisin, Brian D, Albert and Mick Mo with 113 points. It was a shame for Brian as he likes the cherry chocolates and it was nut ones for the last place team this week.
Nearest the pin was won by Nina with a distance of 1.75m.
Thanks to Mr President for sorting out the prize giving this week as Jacqui and I were unavailable.
Please note that there will be no FGS Friday Golf at Almerimar this coming week (21 June 2013) as we are entering a team in the Top Banana competition at La Envía.

We had 25 players take part this week including 2 guests. There were 8 prizes and you needed to score 34 or more points to be in the prizes. The winner with 39 points was Dot. Second was Robbie with 37 points. Just beating his wife Elaine on lower handicap as she had 37 points as well.
The prize giving took place at Algarbe. This restaurant is one of our new partner businesses for the 2013/2014 season. The full list of restaurants for 2013/2014 will be published soon.

30 players including 4 guests took part this week. For the first time in a while the lead organisers of regular Friday golf were back playing again. Jacqui´s back is getting better and I managed to drag myself away from various chores.
We played a Reverse Waltz with 2 hidden holes. The winners with 94 points (on lower handicap) were John Fl, Mick Cl, Elaine and Doris. Last place and chocolates went to John Wo, Albert, Sharon and Rosemary with a score of 80 points. It was very close with two teams on 80 points and one on 81 points. The hidden holes made all the difference.
Nearest the pin was won by Joan with a distance of 2.55m.
Thanks to John Fl for sorting out the cards and handing out the prizes this week. The rotter even tricked me into thinking I might not have got the chocolates.
There were some great individual scores this week. Especially Mick Cl with 42 points and Robbie with 41 points. Hans O had 38 points and Leslie, Heinz, Barry P and Michelle all had 37 points.

FGS summer Tuesday golf is back and some things never change.
This week we had 19 members and 1 guest. Two people played better than their handicap, Leslie S and Herbert. Both scored 37 points with Leslie taking first prize on lower handicap. Funnily enough he won the last competition of last summer season as well.
Also, the lucky person in the raffle this week was Rosemary. Again, she had a lot of raffle wins last summer.
You can see the full results via the link in the Tuesday drop down menu above.

31 golfers, including 6 guests, took part in an X x Y + Z competition. The weather was typical May weather for Almerimar, sunny with a breeze.
The winners with an excellent score of 146 points were Mick & Lynda H with their guests Les and Lorraine. Although this was a great score it is not the best ever for this type of competition as another team has scored 149 points in the past.
Last place and chocolates went to Larry, Padraic, Isabel H and Ingegerd with a score of 104 points.
Nearest the pin was won by Barry P with a distance of 4.30 metres.
Thanks to Mr President for giving out the prizes this week.
Please note that the regular FGS summer Tuesday golf starts next week.

Apologies for the delay in publishing the results this week. Jacqui has been laid up in bed with a bad back and I have been very busy. Neither of us played on Friday so Mr President took over the reins.
For a change this week we played a Texas Best 2 competition. The tee shots were played like a texas scramble where everyone tees off and you choose one of the balls. After that all players play out their own ball for the rest of the hole and count their individual stableford points. In teams of 4 everyone has to take 4 drives. In teams of 3 and a Doris (our imaginary player) the players take 5 drives.
We had 29 players taking part including 2 guests (and the guests won). The winners were Barry P, his wife Dot, their son Damien and a second guest Paul N with a score of 103. Last place and chocolates went to Albert, Elaine and Jim Sh with a late substitute called Doris replacing Jacqui due to her bad back. They scored 89 points.
Nearest the pin was won by Walter with a distance of 6.60m.

The yr.no weather forecast for Almerimar is for winds up to 12 metres per second (mps) this afternoon. Together with possible showers during the day. Also it is already windy now at 8 am and it always seems to get worse during the day
If the wind speed gets about 7-8 mps golf becomes almost unplayable.
For these reasons we have decided to cancel the Friday golf competition today.

It was a hot, cloudy and muggy day in Almerimar last Friday and 36 golfers including 5 guests enjoyed the warm weather. This week we played a best 2 stableford competition with 2 hidden holes.
The winners with a magnificent total of 95 points were Peter E, Chris P (2nd week in a row), Colin H and Elaine (for the first time ever). In last place with a not so good score of 74 points were Jacqui, Doug, Rita and Ivan.
Nearest the pin with a distance of 4.13m was a guest of Mr and Mrs Sly called Dan.
Thanks to Mr President for giving out the prizes this week.
Don´t forget that we have the away day to the Top Banana competition at La Envía coming up next month on 21 June. Please get in touch if you want to take part.

The sun shone for part of the day but was obscured by clouds from time to time. We had a light breeze throughout the day while we played a Yellow Ball competition with 2 hidden holes.
28 golfers including 3 guests took part on a course that is continuing to improve following the winter season where it was a little brown but very playable. The course was probably in the best condition for a number of years over the winter just gone. However it gets greener and tougher once summer approaches. The greens are improving following the recent hollow tining and top dressing. Also, it looks like the overnight temperatures are on the up again so it will not be long before the summer growing grass is turning the fairways green again.
The winners this week with a team score of 126 points were Hans O (chocolates last week), Jan L, Steve B and Chris P. All 4 players scored more than 30 points individually but none of them beat their handicap.
Last place and chocolates went to Sune, Marianne and their two guests Helena and Roger with 102 points. They should count themselves unlucky as the last time a team scoring more than 100 points got the chocolates in a Yellow Ball competition was July 2012.
Nearest the pin was won by Lawrence with a distance of 0.92m. He sank the putt for a birdie and 4 points that doubled to 8 points for the team as he had the yellow ball.
Thanks to John F for helping us with the prize giving this week. John and Jacqui sorted out the cards and John Wo handed out the prizes for a change.
We had 4 players who played better than their handicap. John F had 42 points and a 2 shot cut to his sloped handicap. John Fl had 41 points and also had a 2 shot cut to his sloped handicap. Mimmo had 38 points and lost a shot off his sloped handicap. Finally, Jacqui scored 37 points and lost 0.3 off her exact handicap but didn't get a cut on her sloped handicap.

It was a good day on the golf course for some and a fantastic day for one person.
It started off cloudy but we finished in sunshine. The weather was kind to us but it was the time of year where for a week or two it is like putting on the beach. All of the greens had been tined and top dressed so perhaps Chris Rea would have found it easier to putt on the course than I did. Even if he didn´t he could at least sing about it rather than listening to my cussing about leaving putts short time after time.
I know the work has to be done for the good of the course so we can at least look forward to the greens are good for the summer. Hopefully the greens will start getting back to normal soon.
We had 28 players including 2 guests playing in a Reverse Waltz competition with two hidden holes.
The winning team was Idris, Joan, Kevin W and a new member Stephen W with a very good score of 97 points. This was only one point more than the second place team. The rest of the scores were more normal ranging from 90 down to the low 80s.
Last place and chocolates went to Hans O (second time in two weeks even though he scored well on both occasions individually), Mimmo, Sylvia and Harry W (a winner last week) with a score of 81 points.
Nearest the pin was won by Marie-Anne P for the second time in 3 weeks. She knocked it to 1.63m on the 17th and then sank the putt for a birdie.
Thanks to Lennart for arranging the prize giving and Curt for his nice speech about the society. We wish the best to all of our friends who are going home for the summer.
Now we come to the handicap cuts. Curt, Marie-Anne and Jim Sh all scored 37 points. Ivan had a very good 39 points. Roisin had a great 41 points and her sloped handicap has been cut by 3 shots on the Master course.
However the man of the day was Kevin W. He scored an amazing 47 points. Thanks to the brutal Spanish EGA handicapping system his exact handicap has dropped from 21.1 to 14.6 and his sloped handicap for the Master course has dropped 7 shots to 15. Well done Kevin.

The day started a little cloudy but by the end of the round we were playing in reasonable sunshine. We had 31 members taking part in an X x Y + Z competition.
The winners this week with an amazing 150 points were Robbie, Harry W, Rosemary and Lennart. They scored 13 points more than the second place team.
Last place and chocolates went to Mel, Leigh, Rita and Mike G with a score of 111 points. This included 22 points on the 8th hole where the two ladies both scored par 3s playing off the more difficult FGS tees. So with Mel in last place it was winners and losers in the Moody household this week.
Nearest the pin was won by Hans O with a distance of 2.13m. Doug, who was playing the first time with us in a while due to injury, took great pleasure telling everyone that Hans missed the putt.
Five players beat their handicap this week. Well done to John Wo (39 points), Roisin (39), Sharon (37), Robbie (37) and Jacqui (37).
Thanks to John F for getting the bottles out and doing the prize giving this week.

After a week off due to the rain last week Friday golf returned on a day when it was clear that spring had arrived. As witnessed by Mr President's white legs being on show at the prize giving (thanks for the photos Jim & Wendy).
We played a best 2 stableford competition with 2 hidden holes in bright sunshine with just a breeze. Golfing heaven.
A smaller group of 28 players including 3 guests took part this week with quite a few regulars now enjoying the lovely weather in their home countries elsewhere in Europe.
The winners this week were Hans O (welcome back Hans), Klaus, Jacqui and Ann N (whose husband John won last time) with an excellent score of 97 points.
Last place and chocolates went to Jan L with his 3 guests, Gustav, Anders and Kathy. They scored 69 points. Here is a photo of them collecting their prizes.

Nearest the pin on hole 17 was won by Marie-Anne P with a distance of 4.20m.
You can see a few more photos from the prize giving here in the Gallery.

After discussions with a number of the players at the clubhouse we decided to cancel the regular Friday golf this week due to bad weather. It was raining when we were due to start at around 12:30pm and the forecast was for drizzle/rain throughout the afternoon.
An ad-hoc competition was organised instead with around 24 of the original 46 players deciding to brave the bad weather.
