The society organised its second ever boule (petanca) competition in Almerimar on Wednesday 31 October 2012. The competition was sponsored by MacGowan´s and the first prize was a 50 euros voucher for use in MacGowan´s.
Thanks to Alan & Judi Sheppard for organising this competition working with John Woodhead.
The entry fee was 5 euros a person with all entrey fees coming back as prizes. Plus there was a small subsidy for the event from the regular Friday guest player profits.
20 FGS members took part in the competition. The format was 4 leagues of 5 players with each match being played as first to 7 points.
The top two from each league went forward to a knockout competition for the main prize. This was played as first to 7 points in the quarter finals, first to 9 points in the semi finals then first to 13 points in the final.
The bottom three from each group took part in a pairs competition for a consolation prize of 10 euros of gift vouchers for El Corte Inglés for each player in the winning team. There were 6 sets of pairs who were split into 2 leagues of 3. The winning pair from each league then played each other in the consolation pairs final. The beaten finalists in the consolation pairs received prizes of a bottle of wine.
The beaten semi finalists (20 euros each) and the beaten finalist (30 euros) in the main competition received gift vouchers for El Corte Inglés. Plus the beaten quarter finalists won cava and chocolates.
The weather was great and the day was very successful. In particular because it allowed some of our non-golfing members to take part in a competitive event.
After the event all of the participants went to MacGowan´s for the drinks and prize giving.
The winners of the consolation prize were Dot & Barry P and the overall winner was John A. Here are the photos of them collecting their prizes from Alan Sheppard.
