Friday Golf - 21 December 2012

The run of fabulous weather continued in Almerimar this week. Whilst others wore only polo shirts as their top layer I managed to remove my gilet and only have a polo and a jumper on.
We had 25 players take part in the penultimate Friday competition of 2012 in brilliant sunshine and virtually no wind. We played a Reverse Waltz with two hidden holes.
The winners this week were Jacqui, Hans F, Rosemary and Kevin W with a great score of 96 points. A whopping 8 points ahead of the second place team. Jacqui, Hans and Rosemary were all in their handicap buffer zone while Kevin scored 43 points. Kevin has had his handicap cut by 3.7 shots and has lost 4 shots on the slope at Almerimar.
Last place was very close with the bottom five teams only separated by 4 points and the bottom three teams by 2 points. In last place and winners of the chocolates were Alan Sl, Joan, Kristina and Paul T with 76 points. Interestingly if you added their individual scores together they scored more than the sums of the individual scores of the two teams just above them. However they did not do well on the 3 to count holes scoring 6 and 7 points less on these holes compared with the two teams above them.
Nearest the pin on hole 17 was very tricky this week. The pin was tucked over on the left in the narrow part of the green between the front and back bunkers. The winner was John Wo with a distance of 7.88m.
Well done to Kevin W. We hope you like your new handicap of 22.0 sloping to 23 on the Master course at Almerimar. Nobody else played better than their handicap this week.
The man in charge of the results presentation this week was Herbert. Thanks Herbert.
Possible Sunday competition on 30 December 2012

The Sunday competition on 2 December 2012 that was cancelled has been re-arranged provisionally for Sunday 30 December 2012.
We hope to confirm this date soon once we have approval and allocation of tee times from the management of the Almerimar course.
If approved, the event will be individual stableford with people arranging their own tee times as is usual for FGS Sunday competitions. The society will book some times and put up a list of times on the noticeboard. However the responsibility for finding playing partners lies with the people taking part in the competition, not the FGS committee.
If the competition goes ahead the prize giving will take place at L´Isöla Capri on Wednesday 2 January 2013 at 7:30pm with first prize being a 50 euro voucher for L´Isöla Capri.

It is getting close to Christmas and a lot of our regulars are on their way to their home countries so we were down to 20 players this week. The weather wasn't too kind to us as it was a bit windy. Also the tees were well back as they were being set up for the BSM competition the following day. Neverthess we all had a good day.
We played a Yellow Ball competition with two hidden holes. The scores were a little lower than normal for this type of competition due to the weather and tee positions.
The winners with 115 points were Robbie, Karen, Jürgen N and Nina. Last place and chocolates went to Lawrence, Amanda, Elaine and Paul T with a score 0f 90.
Lawrence got a double dose of chocolates as he won nearest the pin with a distance of 1.10m. Sadly he missed the putt.
Thanks to Herbert for doing the prize giving this week.

Friday Golf - 7 December 2012

It was a bit cold, slightly breezy and we had a few drops of rain this week. Also, as the Yachting/Golf 3 day competition was taking place the tees were much further back than normal. Plus the rough is unusually thick this year so you are punished if you miss the fairway. These factors combined to make it a hard day for scoring at Almerimar.
We had 30 players including 3 guest taking part and we were playing an X x Y + Z competition. Where you multiply together two stableford scores and add a third on each hole. In this format you can get some really good scores on a hole. Two teams scored 19 points on a single hole by team members having 4, 4 and 3 stableford points. As Lennart pointed out at the prize giving neither of these teams were the winners.
The winners were Alan Sh, Rosemary, Kristina and Doris (our imaginary player) with a score of 118 points.
Last place and chocolates went to Albert, Nina, Mick Cl and Ingegerd with a score of 73 points.
Nearest the pin on hole 17 was won by Mr President with a distance of 4340mm.
Thanks to Lennart for doing the prize giving and for collecting the money this week. Herbert has volunteered for the task next week.
The cards have been processed and checked on Golfshake. This week nobody played better than their handicap. Only Alan Sh, Peter E and Kristina broke the 30 point barrier this week.
