Pick up times for the bodega trip on Wednesday 5 December 2012

Lennart has finalised the pick-ups for the bodega trip tomorro. Here are the details:

We suggest that you take some warm clothes as it is expected to be around 5 degrees in the morning warming up later. Also, some flat shoes for easy walking might be appropriate as well as the vineyards are on the slopes above Ugijar.

Movember 2012 Moustache Board V0.1

So far we have had 10 FGS members submit photos for our Movember 2012 Moustache Board. You have until Saturday 8 December 2012 to submit your photo. After that we will open the FGS spot the moustache competition.

- Please note that you cannot choose who you play with in this competition. The organisers of the event arrange the teams.

- All people playing in the competition are expected to come to the dinner.

- First tee time is 11:06.

Desert Springs - 30 Nov 12

We had a good day out to Desert Springs yesterday. It was an early start for all and it was most definitely chilly when we all boarded the coach to set off at 8.30am.

Nevertheless, there were some great scores, individual and team wise.

The Best Man prize was wion by Mel with 39 pts (and a handicap cut).

The Best Lady prize was won by Siv B with 31 pts.

Plus a mention to Mick Cl who also beat his handicap with 38 pts and receives a handicap cut.

Movember moustache photos for a competition

Thanks to the members who grew moustaches for Movember. We took photos of all the people who grew moustaches and went to Desert Springs yesterday.

Also, thanks to the members who didn´t go to Desert Springs but have already sent us their photos of their moustaches.

We plan to hold a spot the members Movember moustache competition later this month.  If you are an FGS member and grew a moustache for Movember and have not yet sent us a photo please can you email one to us. By no later than Saturday 8 December 2012.

We will look to organise the photo competition on the forum in the members section of the FGS website in week commencing 10 December 2012.

Francis House - Sum raised

John A has just informed us that a fantastic 1,670 euros was raised at yesterday´s charity golf event.

The results from the competition yesterday have now been published. Well done to the winners, Rolf & Lilian who scored 45 points.

Xmas competition - Wednesday 12 December 2012

The entry list for the FGS Xmas competition on Wednesday 12 December 2012 has now been put up on the noticeboard in the Almerimar clubhouse.

Sunday competition on 2 December 2012 is cancelled

The competition provisionally scheduled for Sunday 2 December 2012 has been cancelled.

This is because the Almerimar golf course is now holding the final round of it´s regularidad competition on this date. This means that there will be a lot of competition for tee times.

Also the tees will be all the way back as it is an official competition. As people probably know, our society likes to play it´s competitions from tees that are a little easier than the official positions but not too easy.

We will look to re-schedule this competition and announce the new date as soon as we can.

Short mat bowls -21 November 2012

Many thanks to the El Ejido Bowls Club for helping organise a great 2nd night of bowls to follow the excellent practice night last week. The photo above is of the people taking part this evening.

The committee is considering organising another night or two of short mat bowls for early 2013. If you think this is a good idea and you are interested in taking part please let us know.

Francis House 2012 starting times

We now have the complete list of starting times for the Francis House charity competition on Friday 23 November 2012.

The entry list is full and anyone else who wants to take part will have to be a reserve in case of drop outs.

Update on membership numbers - 21 November 2012

A number of members have asked about membership numbers for the society for the 2012/2013 season. Here is a summary of status on 21 November 2012:

Latest member number: 334 (we don´t reallocate numbers for members who do not rejoin)

New/renewed members for 2012/2013: 234

Budget assumption of number of members for 2012/2013: 277

So at present we have 43 members less than we have planned for this year according to the budget. However we have had a number of emails from people who have not been in Almerimar to renew stating that they plan to renew when next in town. Also, from experience last year we continue to have new members join right through to around April/May. So we are reasonably confident that we will reach the number of paid up members we planned for in the budget.

Boule competition - Wednesday 27 February 2013

We can now confirm that there will be a boule competition on Wednesday 27 February 2013. Thanks again to Alan & Judi Sheppard for being the lead organisers of this event.

Handicap cuts following competition on Sunday 18 November 2012

Well done to Jacqui (38), Jim Sh (37), Peter W (37) and John Wo (37) for playing better than their handicaps in the last Sunday competition.

Francis House prize giving and raffle - MacGowan´s starting at 5:30pm

John Andrew, the lead organiser of the charity golf competition on Friday 23 November 2012 in aid of Francis House, has confirmed that the prize giving and raffle will take place at MacGowan´s starting at approximately 5:30pm.
