We had 63 players including one guest taking part this week. That is a record number since we started keep a history of results on the site in November 2007. The previous highest numbers were 60 players on 23 November 2007 and 61 players 1 year ago, on 24 October 2015.
The weather was kind to us. It was sunny with a breeze. Very nice for this time of year but it got a bit chilly when the sun went behind the clouds.
The condition of the greens continues to improve.
We played a best 2 stableford competition on the Classic course and the front 9 holes of the Master course. The tees and in particular the mens tees were very forward on the Classic course. This has led to some very high individual and team scores.
The winning team this week were Lennart, Andy J, Nina and Keith Can with an incredible 102 points. This is the highest score we have ever recorded for this format since we started recording team scores in 2010. It is also worth mentioning that the second place team scored 98 points. If they had won they would also have claimed a place on the history of scoring page.
Two teams had the same lowest score of 73 points. So it was down to hidden holes to sort out which team got the chocolates. The losers on hidden holes were Jim Sh, Stefan H, Rosemary and Maya.
Nearest the pin was on hole 8 on the Classic. It was won by Jörgen A with a distance of 0.91m (yes he did sink the putt for a birdie).
Thanks to David H for sorting out the bottles and for his very amusing post competition prize giving speech. I hope Jim did not take offence at the bit about his broken driver and anger management courses.
We will publish a separate story about handicap changes from yesterday when we get a chance.
Finally, thanks to the hotel and clubhouse staff for supplying us with the bottles this week for the first time. All went very smoothly. It is a bit of a shame that we will not be having another regular Friday competition again until the beginning of December. This is mainly due to not being able to get tee times at Almerimar on Fridays in November.
We have the Woodsly Cup next week (Tuesday 27 October and Saturday 31 October). Followed by the Herbert Piest Memorial competition on Saturday 7 November 2015. Then we have an away day to La Envía on Friday 13 November. That is then followed by a non-FGS event, the Francis House charity competition, on Saturday 21 November. After that we have an away day to an as yet not agreed location on Friday 27 November 2015.
