It was a small and very select group of Friday golfers this week. We had 15 players including 1 guest.
The weather started cloudy but soon warmed up as the sun came through. However there was a strong cooling breeze making it much cooler than recent competitions.
We played a new format this week. It was called 2 x X + Y. In this format you double the teams best stableford points score on a hole and add the next best stableford score.
The scoring was very close indeed. Only 9 points separated the top and bottom teams. The winners with 136 points were John Wo, Ingrid, Mick Cl and Elaine.
Last place and chocolates went to Mel, Andrew B, Nina (3rd week in a row) and a guest Steve. They had a team score of 127 points. They were really unlucky as the second to last team scored 128 points.
Looking at their card the team of Brian D, Richard Ö, Albert and Rosemary were looking like winning chocolates right up until hole 17. Then on this hole Rosemary won nearest the pin with a distance of 1.34m. She sank the putt for 5 points which doubled to 10 points. 3 points on the hole from Albert made their team score on the hole 13 points. So in the end they just avoided the chocolates as they scored 21 points on the last two holes while the last place team only scored 13 points on the last 2 holes.
Thanks to Mr President for doing the prize giving this week.
As people probably know we use an imaginary player called Doris to make up numbers if we do not have every team having 4 players. While at the mike doing the prize giving Mr President mentioned that the he felt that the new Doris4 we are trying out was too generous. Doris4 gets 2 points on every hole (36 points in total). Mr President's team was the only Doris team this week. Having checked Mr President's team card his team would have scored 131 points rather than their actual score of 133 points if they had been playing with the old Doris 2 (stroke index 7-18 gets 2 points and stroke index 1-6 gets 1 point = 30 points). They would still have finished in second place whether they had been using Doris2 or the new Doris4.
We will probably keep trying out Doris4 for a few more weeks before we make a decision about making any more permanent changes to Doris.
We have already processed the cards for handicaps. Nobody scored better than their handicap this week. Andrew P scored best with 36 points.
Of the 14 players 6 scored 30 or more points.
3 players played in their buffer zone. 11 players got a small increase in their handicap. Of these 11 players 2 got an extra shot back on their sloped handicap for the Master Course.
