3 club competition on 28 November 2012 to be sponsored by Titan Elevators

The lead organisers of the 3 club compeititon, Mel Moody and John Flynn, have confirmed that the competition is to be sponsored by Titan Elevators.

The exact details of the sponsorship have still to be worked out. Further details will be provided prior to the competition taking place on Wednesday 28 November 2012.

Good news - there will be regular Friday golf on 16 November 2012

We have managed to get a 12:00 noon start on the Classic course followed by a 14:10 start on hole 1 of the Master course for Friday 16 November 2012.

So we will have regular Friday golf this coming week.

The entry list for the 3 club golf competition on Wednesday 28 November 2012 is now open. It will be maintained on the noticeboard in the Almerimar clubhouse with a copy of the list of participants being maintained on the site.

Website updated following the AGM on 5 November 2012

The website has been updated to reflect changes agreed at the AGM that was held yesterday, 5 NOvember 2012, in Almerimar.

The rules of the society have been amended as described in the agenda for the AGM for 2012 and approved at the meeting. In addition, the committee page has been updated to reflect the fact that John Flyn is now approved as a full member of the committee.

We will publish the minutes of the meeting once they have been approved by the committee. We will also publish the Presidents letter that was read out at the meeting.

Grow a Moustache for Prostate Cancer Awareness in "Movember"

Following discussions at the Woodsly Cup dinner on  Friday evening a number of members have agreed to "Grow a Moustache for Prostate Cancer Awareness in "Movember" ." You can see more information about this event here.

So if you see FGS members with moustaches this month you know why.

Please note it should be a moustache only and not a beard as well.

If you would like to take part please email us a photo of your moustache on Friday 30 November (or Saturday 1 December) and we might even set up a name the owner of the moustache competition. If we get enough photos we will run this competition.

FGS events in November and early December 2012

Here is a list of announcements about upcoming FGS events.:

- The AGM will take place on Monday 5 November at 5:30pm in the Almerimar clubhouse.

- Golf on Friday 9 November is cancelled as we cannot get access to the course.

- Golf on Friday 16 November is also cancelled for the same reason. There is a possibility that we may try to organise a regular Friday competition on Saturday 17 November if times become available.

. There will be two Short Mat Bowls events on Wednesday 14 & 21 November 2012.

- It is now confirmed that we will hold a Sunday competition on 18 November 2012. This event is sponsored by La Caleta.

- The annual Francis House charity golf competition will take place on Friday 23 November 2012.

- There will be an 18 hole 3 club competition playing twice round on the Classic course on Wednesday 28 November 2012.

- There will be a society away day to Desert Springs on Friday 30 November 2012.

- The entry list for the trip to a bodega on Wednesday 5 December 2012 is now open.

Broken Woodsly Cup 2012 individual trophy

When we left Chiringuito Franc (at nearly 2am) last night we noticed a broken individual glass trophy that was left by one of the men. It looked like it had been dropped and the glass was chipped. Either that or it was damaged when it was delivered and we didn´t notice the damage.

If the owner of the trophy gets in touch we can provide a replacement as we bought a few spares as we were not sure how many people were going to take part.

Congratulations to the men on retaining the Woodsly Cup yesterday beating the ladies 23 1/2 to 15 1/2.

The girls will have to up their games even more next year, although there is talk of 3 courtesy shots for us next time ;-)

Boule - 31 Oct 12

We had a great time this morning playing Boule in fantastic sunshine and blue skies. Somewhat different to yesterday when some of us got a soaking on the golf course.

We will write up a more detailed account about today in due course. But for now, here is the overall winner of the competition, John Andrew, collecting his prize from Alan Sheppard.

Woodsly Cup 2012 - progress

We have published the results from the pairs matches yesterday. We have also published the start list for Friday´s singles matches. You can see these via the temporary links in the Woodsly drop down menu above.

Well done to the men who have gained a 9 1/2 to 3 1/2 lead after the pairs. However with 26 singles matches on Friday there is everything to play for.

We have also published some photos from yesterday here in the Gallery. In doing so we have spotted a bug in the Gallery software. The photos can be viewed in a slideshow but for some reason cannot be viewed individually. We will investigate the cause of this bug and try to fix it when we get a bit of spare time.

AGM 2012 - 5 November 2012
