We had the last Friday golf competition of 2015 yesterday (18 December 2015).
There will be no FGS Friday competitions on 25 December 2015 (Christmas day) and 1 January 2016 (New Years day). The next regular Friday golf competition will be on 8 January 2015.
We hope to run an FGS Sunday competition on 27 December 2015. All being well the notice will go up on the board on Monday 21 December 2015. Please note that the competition will be cancelled if less than 12 players take part.
Now back to the competition yesterday. We had 27 members taking part in fantastic December weather. It was sunny with a light breeze.
We played a relatively new format that we have played only twice before. 2 x X + Y. In this format on each hole you double the stableford points of the best score and add the second best score. We also had the option of hidden holes but they were not needed as all team scores were different.
One note for team captains - if we are playing a format where we think captains need help with the method of scoring we attach some details and example scores to the card. I mention this as Mr President said that of the 7 teams only one of them had the correct final score.
The winners were Sharon, John G, Adrian G and Maya with 136 points. The previous 2 winning scores were 141 and 136 points. So we are starting to see what you need to score to do well in this format.
Last place and chocolates went to Jacqui, Mimi, John McE and Stefan H with 118 points. This was the lowest ever losing score for this format - previous chocolate scores in this format were 134 and 127 points.
Jacqui got double chocolates as she won nearest the pin with a distance of 0.40m. As usual, on hole 17 on the Master course.
Thanks to Mr President for doing the prize giving yesterday.
We have got our act together and have already processed the cards for handicap changes.
Of the 27 players only one played better than their handicap. Well done to Heinz who scored 37 points.
We had 13 players who scored 30 points or more.
There were 8 players in their buffer zone. Leaving 18 players receiving a small increase in exact FGS handicap. Of these 18 players only one person had an increase in their sloped handicap for the Master course.
Merry Christmas and a happy New Year to all our members.
