Yesterday, Saturday 9 April 2016, we had the 2nd edition of an "Away Day to Almerimar". These competitions are like regular Friday competitions except that instead of having drinks & tapas afterwards we have a meal. The meal will probably normally be in the clubhouse. However on this occasion it was a buffet in the golf hotel.
We had 36 golfers taking part, including 1 guest. We then had 45 people for lunch including 3 lunch guests. We were lucky with the weather and we played in bright sunshine with a gentle breeze. Then sat outside drinking away on the hotel terrace late into the afternoon after the lunch.
We played an X x Y + Z competition this week. There were some good scores and some not so good scores. However no team played well enough or badly enough to make it onto the history of scoring board.
The winners were Jacqui, Keith Can, Inger S and Dan G with a team score of 149 points.
Last place and chocolates went to John Wo, Anita, Leigh and Paddy Mc with 93 points.
Dan G won nearest the pin with a distance of 4.92m. This was the second week in a row he has won nearest the pin. There are lots of chocolates in their household at the moment as Anita has finished last the last 2 weeks.
Mr President helped us out collecting the money and doing the prize giving. Thanks to him for his help.
Although we had headaches this morning we decided to process the cards for handicap purposes soon after the event. This gave us the opportunity to try out the new HandicapMaster software and Master Scoreboard results service for real. We had previously only used it for test purposes using data from a competition in March 2016.
Of the 35 members taking part 16 scored 30 points or more.
We had 4 players who scored better than their handicap. Well done to Dan G (39 points), Mr President (38 points - 2nd competition in a row he has been cut), Inger S (38 points) and Sune (37 points).
We had 7 players in their buffer zone and two players already on the society maximum handicap of 40. Leaving 22 players to get a small increase in handicap (now 0.1 for all players who have handicaps less than 36.0). You can see the updated exact handicaps on the Handicaps page (this list is now generated automatically from data on the Master Scoreboard results system).
If you are interested in seeing all of the individual scores from yesterday you can access the data via the FGS on Master Scoreboard menu item. On the page that appears there are links to FGS online scoring records. Plus a link to a mobile/tablet friendly version of the results service. As yet there is only data from two competitions, our test competition in March plus the results from yesterday. Over time we will see a lot more results data appearing there.
Thanks to the management and staff in the clubhouse, on the course and in the hotel for making this such a great event.
It is back to normal Friday golf next week. First tee time is 12:34pm.
