Overs vs. Unders - SATURDAY 2 March 2013 - Start Sheet

PLEASE NOTE THAT DUE TO CIRCUMSTANCES BEYOND OUR CONTROL WE HAVE HAD TO MOVE THE TEE TIMES TO LATER IN THE DAY ON SATURDAY 2 MARCH 2013.

Here is the start list for the Unders vs. Overs on Saturday 2 March 2013.

Unders men will play off the official yellow stones. Overs men will play off the official blue tees. Unders ladies will play off the official red tees. Overs ladies will play off the red tees of the day (except on holes 8 & 12 when they will play off teh FGS tees).

Boule - 27 February 2013

It was a windy day on the boule pistes in Almerimar today. So much so that we curtailed the competition and adjourned to Yachting Golf earlier than expected.

2 more players needed for the Overs/Unders on 2 March 2013

We need 2 more players to make up the numbers in the Overs vs. Unders competition at Almerimar this coming Saturday (2 March 2013).

Please note that as we are asking for a small number of people to make the sides even these people do not have to attend the prize giving dinner on the Saturday evening.

If you wish to take part please contact a member of the committee as soon as possible.

Please note that there will be no regular Friday golf in 9 days time on Friday 1 March 2013.

This is because the final major of the season, The Overs vs. Unders, is taking place on Saturday 2 March 2013. See the item in the Featured Items menu for more details.

Please note that the closing date for entry in the Overs vs. Unders is Tueday 26 February 2013. So please let us know soon if you wish to take part.

It is expected that the post competition prize giving dinner will take place at Nautilus. This should be confirmed very soon.

Short mat bowls - 20 February 13

Well done to Barry P, Mr President, Iris (a guest) and Bill (from the bowls club) for winning the friendly short mat bowls competition tonight.

England vs. Rest of World 2013 - wine labels

As some of you might remember the bodega sent us bottles of wine with 2012 wine labels on them for the England vs. Rest of World match last month. Instead of this years label.

We now have the correct labels. Those, like myself, who want to keep a bottle with the correct label on it can apply the new label over the top of the old one with a prit stick. This works rather well.

If you want some of the correct wine labels to apply to your bottles please get in touch.

Change of dates for the La Manga away weekend

The President has had to change the dates for the event due to a court date in Málaga on 11 September, the day prior to the event.

We have spoken to the hotel and our revised dates are now Friday 20 to Tuesday 24 September 2013. All other details remain the same.

We hope this does not provide problems for any of our members.

We have rooms provisionally reserved for the new dates, but would like members who intend to take part to confirm their booking prior to 31 March 2013.

Sorry for this unavoidable change.

2013 away weekend is at La Manga

This year the annual away weekend is scheduled for La Manga from Thursday 12 Sepetember to Monday 16 September 2013. See the link in the Featured Items menu on the left of the site for more details.

Friday golf - 15 February 2013

40 golfers took part in Friday golf this week. 39 members and one guest. We played an XxY+Z competition on a perfect sunny day with hardly any wind.

The winners with a fantastic score of 142 points (4 points more than the next team score) were Paul M, Idris, Dot P and  Gerda. Last place and chocolates went to Jürgen N, Herbert, Elaine and Agneta with a score of 98 points.

Nearest the pin on hole 17 was won by Robbie with a distance of 1.73m.

Six people played better than their handicaps this week. Well done to Robbie - 38 pts and Mr.President, Steve B, Marianne, Kevin W and Karen who all scored 37 points.

Low/High handicap competition on 13 February 2013 is cancelled

The Low/High handicap competition scheduled for Wednesday 13 February has been cancelled. This is because we did not get enough people enter the competition to justify us taking over the Classic Course for a shotgun start. Also, there were not enough people to justify the two sets of prizes that would be needed for these two competitions runn ing at the same time.

Friday golf - 8 February 2013

46 golfers took part in Friday golf this week. 44 members and two guests. We played a Best 2 Stableford competition with two hidden holes in perfect golfing conditions. Sunshine with only a light to moderate breeze.

The winners with a score of 87 points were Jacqui, Ingegerd, Kevin W and a new member Tom R. Last place and chocolates went to Leslie, Marie-Anne, Elaine and Doris with a score of 74 points. Only 2 behind the next 2 teams so it was a close run thing.

Nearest the pin on hole 17 was won by Stefan with a distance of 4.46m.

Two people played better than their handicaps this week. Well done to Sharon and Wilhelm who both scored 37 points.

Minimum number of players for the low/high handicappers competition on Weds 13 February 2013

The organisers have agreed that we need a minimum of 24 people taking part to make the low/high handicappers competition on Wednesday 13 February 2013 feasible. This is because we are taking over the Classic Course and running two competitions alongside each other.

If we have less than 24 players on the entry list in the clubhouse by 2pm on Monday 11 February 2013 the organisers have agreed that we will have to cancel the competition.

Please avoid slow play

Avoiding slow play is something all members of the society must be aware of any time they play at Almerimar and elsewhere.
